Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
