England to Launch the European Championship 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated passage for a competition hosted across the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not staged an English men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to welcome the national team for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top Group B, their round of 16 match would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s ground.

Competition Launch and Demonstration

The tournament was inaugurated at an event in central London on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the site by approximately 50 activists, who called for Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Placards were raised with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Timeline

The first match of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.

The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help engage a more diverse set of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are scheduled to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground complete the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals held at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a host city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.

Tournament Vision

“The event will be a competition for the fans and a festival of everything we love about the football – its emotion and power to foster unity.”

Over 3 million tickets, a record for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be released to attendees.
