Jurgen Klopp says a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach a different club in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to management, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, yet sharing a meal with the players talking freely, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, though he denied the notion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, along with the consequences for the team. Jota lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A devastating blow for all the boys too. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
