First-choice XI

The goalkeeper Was rarely tested required before the break before called into action by an opponent's curled attempt. His sliding challenge against an Albanian attacker demonstrated sharp anticipation. 6/10

Jarell Quansah Challenged against the opposition's main danger in their forward. Played through the middle to begin with later drifted out wide once a teammate came on. Seven

John Stones Moved into midfield when in possession, as he has done in the past. Sometimes was too casual in possession and the experiment was shelved after the break. 6

The tall defender Always dangerous from dead balls, per usual, but may be another option to Stones at the back rather than paired with him. A careless distribution in the second half nearly resulted in an opener from the visitors. 6/10

The young full-back One more confident performance by the 20-year-old following his debut versus another side. Saka did not capitalize on full advantage of a clever flick behind the Albania defence. The role looks secure so soon. 7

Adam Wharton His maiden beginning for his country. Slightly sloppy when playing out though his inswinging corners were a threat. A handy game manager available to the manager to utilize against teams who drop deep. Shown a yellow for a rash challenge. Six

The midfielder Set-pieces from dead balls and set-plays caused problems. Was given room to move down the left flank only to be in an offside position when the ball arrived in shooting positions. Awarded a deserved break on the hour mark. 6/10

The star midfielder Functioned in a forward position on the right and also did plenty of dirty work. Displayed glimpses of brilliance but dragged an attempt high. Replaced late on by Rogers, his competition, after being booked. Seven

Jarrod Bowen Had the team's top opening of the first half, his effort excellently kept out by the opposing goalkeeper. With Quansah staying deep, he had to offer an outlet out wide although his balls from the touchline were hit and miss. Taken off with 15 to go. Six

Harry Kane The decisive figure with his two more finishes in an England shirt. His first a classic opportunist's goal while the second an excellent finish with his head after peeling away off his defender. Now 32, he’s only getting better and the side stand a real opportunity in the upcoming tournament when he's in the team. 8

The attacker Found it tough to get into the game out wide. Had a presentable chance after being played in from a teammate but Strakosha made the save. His replacement made much more of an impact in his place. 5/10
