The artist has donated the entirety of his £25k award winnings to the MVT, which works to save the Britain's independent concert spaces.

The star was given the prize on 16 October as his latest record People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the previous year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function local spots had in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation helped locations that were facing imminent closure due to challenges arising from water damage, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Other venues received financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The idea that revenue from shows in big venues backs the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," the artist explained to a publication.

In recent years, they gave their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

And winners that year the group gave their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," said artist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success touched another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had rescued two small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the other in Bristol were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
