Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” the coach remarked.

“It's important to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Persistent Issues and Squad Response

The manager lamented familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”

“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
