The Details Known About the Victims of the Bondi Terror Attack

Reportedly a father-of-five, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, as stated by his wife.
She told the moments before the shooting, explaining they were standing when the gunfire began. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French authorities have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Officially, the Foreign Minister said that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement read.
One Child
A child who was taken to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was a fatality during the attack, as per reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with a number in serious condition. The injured comprise two officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Hailed as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
