Vince Zampella, the mind behind the globally famous first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in California aged 55.

His passing was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The renowned game designer passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a motorway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, according to.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, those closest to him, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
